Descripción: Text information in images and videos is frequently a key factor for information indexing and retrieval systems. However, text detection in images is a difficult task since it is often embedded in complex backgrounds. In this paper, we propose an accurate text detection and localization method in images based on stroke information and the Adaptive Run Lenght Smoothing Algorithm. Experimental results show that the proposed approach is accurate, has high recall and is robust to various text sizes, fonts, colors and languages. © 2011 Springer-Verlag.

Descripción: In this paper, we introduce a family of robust estimates for the parametric and nonparametric components under a generalized partially linear model, where the data are modeled by y i |(x i , t i ) ∼ F (·, μ i ) with μ i = H(η(t i ) + x i T β), with for some known distribution function F and link function H. It is shown that the estimates of β are root-n consistent and asymptotically normal. Through a Monte Carlo study, the performance of these estimators is compared with that of the classical ones. © Institute of Mathematical Statistics, 2006.

Descripción: In this work we take under consideration the Cauchy problem for the Schrödinger-Poisson type equation i t u=- x2 u+V (u) u-f (∫u∫2) u, where f represents a local nonlinear interaction (we take into account both attractive and repulsive models) and V is taken as a suitable solution of the Poisson equation V=12 ∫x∫ (C- ∫u∫2), C Cc∞ is the doping profile or impurities. We show that this problem is locally well posed in the weighted Sobolev spaces Hs { Hs (R): (1+ x2) 12 ∫∫2 <∞} with s1, which means the local existence, uniqueness, and continuity of the solution with respect to the initial data. Moreover, under suitable assumptions on the local interaction, we show the existence of global solutions. Finally, we establish that for s1 local in time and space, smoothing effects are present in the solution; more precisely, in this problem there is locally a gain of half a derivative. © 2007 American Institute of Physics.
